Another Strook with something I drew, read, and listened to.
Drawing
After my struggle with the mechanical mammoth, I didn't get around to any new drawings this week. So I'm pulling something out of the archives.
I drew the Spotted Eagle Ray on A3 with a Micron 01 pen. Due to the size and the fine tip, it took dozens of hours. I recorded the process on video:
During the winter months, I often find it easier to devote myself to this kind of painstaking work. Which animal would you like to see drawn?
Reading
Alongside Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle and Shackleton's South, Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki is one of my favorite expedition travel stories. In 1947, Heyerdahl attempted to prove that the Polynesians originated in South America by sailing from Peru to Polynesia on a raft.

He built the raft in Peru using balsa wood, according to Inca construction techniques. After two months at sea, they encountered a severe storm, but the crew survived by tying themselves to the raft with ropes. Whale sharks are frightening due to their enormous size (despite being relatively harmless). One morning, the entire deck is littered with flying fish that were attracted by the lamp on the deck during the night. However, the danger of the journey lies in the tail end, as the raft crashes on a reef at its final destination in Polynesia.
After 101 days of sailing 6,900 kilometers, Heyerdahl proves that South Americans could have reached Polynesia. Although it has since been proven that the population of Polynesia did not come from South America, the expedition did produce a legendary adventure story.
Listen
Lawn is reminiscent of bands such as Parquet Courts, Pavement, and Velvet Underground. Nervous guitars, 90s sound, spoken vocals.
See you next week!
