A new Strook with something I've read, listened to, and drawn.

Reading

Jeff Tweedy wrote some of my all-time favorite songs with Wilco, most of which can be found on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born. However, Tweedy has also written three books over the past five years, all of which I really enjoyed.

Let's Go (So We Can Get Back) is a wonderfully readable autobiography, full of his (particularly surprising) musical inspirations. It is also very personal, covering family grief, drug problems, and depression. Read it with this playlist.

How to Write One Song may not sound very interesting to someone who can only strum a few chords out of rhythm, but it turned out to be a great, down-to-earth book about finding and maintaining creativity.

World Within A Song delves even deeper into how specific songs can be decisive in your life. Just like Let's Go, it's wonderful how he weaves his personal story through the chapters. Even songs he hates, or has learned to appreciate.

"It feels good to stop hating something." - Jeff Tweedy

Listen

As if 15 studio albums by Wilco, 4 Uncle Tupelo albums, 3 books, and multiple side projects (such as his newsletter Jeff Tweedy | Starship Casual) weren't enough, Tweedy also found the time to make five solo albums. Last week, Twilight Override was released. A triple solo album, of course. I still need to sit down and listen to it properly, but the third album ends with my current favorite.

Drawing

Last week, someone turned 7. Our cat modeled for her birthday poster. This week, someone turned 42. Fortunately, my cat had one facial expression left.

Hooray!

See you next week!
